Mintel Reports A GALILEO database providing in-depth market research reports on a wide range of U.S. and European consumer products, including food/drink, clothing, beauty, electronics, automobiles, etc. Reports are typically 100 pages long and cover consumer demographics, market size, market shares, trends/forecasts, segmentation, and distribution channels, among other topics. About 120 reports are added annually. Mintel requires you to register using your UGA email address.
Factiva A GALILEO database combining Dow Jones and Reuters content from over 8,000 news publications and newswires covering U.S. and international business. Also covers transcripts of leading media news broadcasts - BBC, CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, NPR; and company profiles. Factiva is the only database that provides the full text of the Wall Street Journal, 1984-present.
Business Source Complete A GALILEO database providing full-text access to many business and industry magazines as well as as scholarly peer-reviewed business journals. Additional full-text, non-journal content includes case studies, industry reports, market research reports, country reports, company profiles, SWOT analyses and more.
Consumer buying behavior
MRI University Internet Reporter Data on product buying behavior and media habits of 27,000 adults. MRI requires you to register using your UGA email address. Register at www.mriplus.com. Simmons Study of Media and Markets This is another extensive consumer survey. Please email Sheila Devaney at email@example.com from your UGA email address. She will verify your UGA student status and provide you with login information. A good tutorial on using Simmons is available here.
The American Community Survey from the Census Bureau provides annually updated demographic and socio-economic data about the U.S. population. (Use American Factfinder). An alternative source to the same data is Social Explorer in GALILEO.
The Census of Agriculture provides detailed data on farms, crops, and livestock on the national, state, and county levels. Conducted every five years by USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service. Latest is 2007. Available at www.agcensus.usda.gov
Company and brand information
SIC and NAICS code lookup. The industry codes used in these two industry classification systems are sometimes useful in searching the resources listed below as a way to generate lists of companies in the same line of business.

Custom search allows filtering by NAICS, SIC, and Yellow Pages categories to search by industry. Also allows county, ZipCode, and radius searching.
Dun & Bradstreet Million Dollar Database A GALILEO database covering millions of companies of all sizes, private & public in the U.S., Mexico and Canada; and many companies in other countries with $500,000 sales. Data usually includes a rounded total sales figure and number of employees; and might list brands. Advanced search allows filtering by SIC, NAICS to search by industry. Also allows county or ZipCode searching within the U.S.

Data usually are expressed as percentages but somtimes also include total sales. Extensive indexing helps identify potentially useful lists. Business Rankings Annual (shelved near the Main Library Reference Desk) This annually updated print source provides thousands of lists of top ranked businesses in a wide variety of industry categories and other criteria. Data somtimes includes total sales, production, or other measures. Index covers business names to help identify potentially useful lists. Older editions are on the 5th floor under the call number HG4057 .A353.
Builders Suite (aka Marketing Fact Book) on CD-ROM. Shelved at Main Library Reserve desk under the call number HD9321.4 .M38 [year]. This annual disc from IRI Symphony provides consumer brand purchasing data for packaged grocery products. It is based on the data generated by the purchases of a sample of shoppers in grocery stores. It is possible to create a table showing variables such as "volume share" of all the national brands in a given grocery category, e.g, refrigerated butter. Users should ask for the latest available disc at the Main Library Reserves Desk. The software is installed at the Government Documents stand alone workstation in the Main Reference room.
